Aspen & Slater celebrated their birthdays on February 11th. Aspen turned 3 years old and Slater turned 1 year old on 2/8. They had all of the grandparents in town for their birthdays and lots of friends from Church. Afterwards, Shawn, Katie, Aspen & Slater joined Katie's family in Steamboat Springs for a ski trip over the President's Day weekend.

Shawn's parents, Gilbert & Judy, joined Shawn, Katie, Aspen & Slater for a trip up to Northern California. They visited Silicon Valley & San Francisco, and saw lots of great sights. While in Silicon Valley, they visited several of the Technology Company campuses and the Winchester Mystery House. While in San Francisco, they saw many of the sights along the 49-mile drive, with the Golden Gate Bridge as the highlight. Shawn was also able to visit with a friend from Alabama that now lives in San Francisco, Adam Hammons. Finally, the group drove back to Southern California long the PCH through Big Sur.

Shawn, Katie, Aspen & Slater visited Alabama for Christmas & New Years in 2011-2012. While there, they were able to visit with both Shawn's family in Mobile and Katie's family in Orange Beach. They had a great time seeing family and playing with the other children.

Shawn, Katie, Aspen & Slater visited Phoenix, Arizona in late November/early December and stayed at the Arizona Biltmore. While there, they visited the Sonoran Desert National Monument, the Painted Rock Petroglyph Site, the Phoenix Zoo Christmas lights, Rawhide, the McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park, and played in the pool.

Shawn, Katie, Aspen & Slater traveled to Alabama to visit family & then to Atlanta for Katie to attend a conference. While in the southeast, they enjoyed the beach in Gulf Shores/Orange Beach, the Georgia Aquarium, and went to the Florida Atlantic v. Auburn football game, Aspen & Slater's first game!

Shawn attended the CS MANTECH conference and ROCS Workshop in Indian Wells (Palm Springs), CA in mid-May, and brought the family along. While Shawn enjoyed some great technical sessions, the family enjoyed some pool-side fun in the warmer weather.

February through April 2011 were filled with Shawn & Katie's parents visits from Alabama. Katie's mom visited first in February and Katie's dad joined her in March. In early April, Shawn's parents came to visit and Slater was old enough to travel. The group went down to San Diego to see the Zoo & Sea World. They had a chance to visit with Jason & Mandy Hinson while there.

On Tuesday, 2/8/2011, The Lord blessed Shawn & Katie with another child: Slater Edward Burnham. He was born in Ventura, CA at 1:58 am, weighing 8 pounds, 10 ounces and was 21 inches long. Slater was able to come home after a day in the hospital and met his big sister, Aspen. Katie's mom, Gigi, came a few days later to stay with the family.

Shawn, Katie, Aspen & Slater went to Mammoth for Christmas with Katie's parents and enjoyed nearly 15 feet of snow! For New Years they went to the Rose Parade with Katie's mom and saw all of the unique floats. At the beginning of January, they met Katie's parents and sister's family at Disneyland, and the guys drover over to Glendale, Arizona to watch Auburn win the BCS National Championship game.

Shawn, Katie, Aspen & Slater visited Alabama for Thanksgiving. While they were there, they were able to visit with lots of family in Mobile and Orange Beach. They were also able to watch an exciting Iron Bowl with their families. When they returned, they visited Disneyland to see the Christmas decorations.

Shawn, Katie & Aspen visited Alabama in late September, 2010. Aspen enjoyed the sugar white beaches of Gulf Shores and the very warm weather for fun pool time. Both sets of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins were able to visit with them, and they had a great time together. They also experienced some thunderstorms, which are rare at home in California. While there, they were able to share the news that Aspen's younger sibling will be a boy!

Mimi & Pawpaw (Shawn's parents) visited Shawn, Katie and Aspen in July/August for a week. While they were in California, Mimi & Pawpaw went to the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, they all went to Disneyland, they dropped Shawn off at the US Open of Surfing, and they all went to the Pt. Mugu Airshow to see the Thunderbirds. Shawn & Katie surprised his parents with the news that Katie is expecting their second child in February of 2011.

Shawn, Katie & Aspen met all of their parents in Alaska for a cruise from Anchorage to Hubbard Glacier, Glacier Bay, Skagway, Juneau, Ketchikan, and Vancouver. They had a great time seeing Alaska and visiting with their families!

Shawn surprised Katie with a weekend trip to Avalon on Catalina Island for her 30th Birthday. They took a 2 hour boat ride out of Marina Del Rey to the island and had a great time exploring with Aspen. While there, they enjoyed some great food, went on a glass-bottom boat ride, toured the Casino and also toured the back country on the inside of the island. On the way back home, they topped the trip off with a great dinner at the Chart House in Malibu.
